This Twin Cities-based quintet showcases their eclectic and inventive style in this collection of all-original tunes, recorded before a live audience at the historic Capri Theater in Minneapolis, MN.
While influenced and inspired by jazz greats like Monk and Mingus, Gondwana often mixes and matches styles seamlessly and fluidly. The results are playful, complex and intriguing with musical intricacies packaged wonderfully in a lighthearted delivery.
Gondwana's members have shared the limelight with some of Minnesota's most acclaimed music legends, and they're right at home on stage at the storied Capri. Join Max Ray, Rochelle Becker, Jerry Gorman, Larry Hennessy and Rod Gordon (taking the baton from his late brother Drew) for this night of musical exploration and enjoyment, and a slice of Minnesota music history.
Recorded on February 11, 2010, Live At The Capri contains 10 Gondwana originals including 4 never previously released: Heterophony, Loaf of Heels, Chicken Scratch, and Pet Songs. In true Gondwana spirit, each one of those is unique. Heterophony is like the musical definition - the simultaneous performance of the same melodic line, with slight individual variations, by two or more performers. Loaf of Heels is a jazz vocal sharing the joy of toasted bread. Chicken Scratch will leave you wondering who left the gate open and Pet Songs expresses the contentment of our non-human companions.
