taken from kronosmortus.hu : It’s rare nowadays when a band’s introduction album surprises us with a relatively unique and quality production. One of these few bands are Fractal Gates, a band from France, which emerged very suddenly from unfamiliarity. The band only exists for two years now, it’s music is somewhere between atmospheric doom metal and melodic death metal. It’s not an innovative thing nowadays, but the music of Fractal Gates has a really inconceivable mood, which can’t be told about of too much bands. The frame of the music is of course frame riffs, joined by the powerful and confident drums. The songs are constructed by mid tempo or a bit faster themes, the vocals are also typically deeperly pitched shriek. The special mood is set by the melodic, melancolic, solo-like harmonies which comes out from the guitars with a great variousity. It’s the frame of most of the songs, and gives a plus mood to each song which makes only one or two listenings enough to totally crush us. They also operate with some slower parts, in which the bridge parts, the so called ’visions’ connect the song parts. So even if you listen to the album for the very first time, you can get an unique experience, if you are receptive for that kind of music. In the first song, whose title is the same as the album’s, we cannot discover the unique potential of the band, but there are some good themes in it. Then in the second song, ’Gates To Nebula’, we can find a lof of harmonies settled inside, and it culminates in the third song, ’Inertia’. There are easily memorizable atmospheric riffs, which remembers us a bit to thrash metal themes, which rise the song one of the best moments in the album. ’Immersion’ is a bit more ’simple’ song with harder base, but the mood setting parts are also there. The tracklist follows with ’The Eclipse’, which is also one of the best compositions on the album. The melody of this song burns into your ear immediately, just like when you listen to the ’Skies of Orion’ song. In the latter song, that certain unconceivable athmosphere culminates again. ’Illusional Dementia’ should also be mentioned, it’s a song with a great impluse, full of better and better themes. The last composition is ’Departure’, which is one of the darkest songs, which a deep athmosphere. We can’t leave out to mention the excellent cover and the powerful sounding as well. Howewer, Fractal Gates is in the beginning of their way, but they found a path where they can walk through. Please let me mention, it’s a more than promising introduction. Though nowadays there are not too much albums which can be rated with the maximal score easily, this disc obviously deserves it. On the back side of the cover, they put there the following text: ’To be continued…’. As for me, I’m really looking forward to it!
