Within the sacred repertoire, two of the works were written specially for the group. Jonathan Seers was one of the founding members of the ensemble, forty years ago. As well as composing Look Down, O Lord, he also penned many of the group’s first
close harmony arrangements. Matthew Martin’s Circumdederunt me was commissioned in 2012 and first performed at a Lenten concert in St John’s College Chapel that same year. This is its première recording.
Whilst several of the arrangements featured on this disc have existed for a number of years, three were arranged more recently by current Musical Director, John Clapham: God Only Knows, Embraceable You and The Lady Is A Tramp. Also worth noting is that
Miss Otis Regrets was recorded without a conductor so that John could feature on the disc as a singer as well as a director, as he usually would in a live performance.
We hope you enjoy the album.
