Shanghai'd is the debut album by the Hot Sardines, a traditional-jazz outfit with a live tap dancer, founded in New York City by Elizabeth Bougerol and Evan Palazzo. They've played Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing, the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, Wit's End and City Winery. The album's name is a nod to Shanghai Mermaid, a modern-day speakeasy which—like the album—is a valentine to the spirit and music of a near-century ago, and whose stage the band has proudly played.
